Stanislas Wawrinka took down Victor Troicki in four sets to reach the Round of 16.
Stan struggled in the first set, getting ahead early with a break, but he later conceded three breaks in a row to allow Troicki to take the lead. He was unable to overcome the deficit and Viktor took the first set 6-3.
Wawrinka began to find his rhythm, and he broke soon after the start of the set. He sealed the set: 6-2.
Wawrinka capitalized early on in the third set, scoring two successive breaks to go up 3-0. There was nothing Troicki could do. Set Wawrinka: 6-2
Stan went up early in the fourth set, but he was broken while serving for the set. Wawrinka broke back straight after, but he once again could not close out the match on his serve, and it went to a tiebreaker. It was back and forth for the majority, but Stan finally managed to close it out: 7-6 (7)
Game, Set, Match:
Wawrinka def. Troicki 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7)
While it was a slightly underwhelming win from the Swiss, he continued on his winning ways at the Australian Open, trying to achieve the same success he did three years ago.
He will have to face Italian Andreas Seppi in the next round, and this type of performance may not cut it in the later stages.
Wawrinka will take on Seppi in the next round, a relatively easy matchup for the Swiss. If he were to win, he would have to face either Tsonga or Dan Evans.
This will be the sixteenth time the two meet each other; Wawrinka holds the lead 10-5 in the series.
